“Climbing is an inherently dangerous activity. The conditions of any climbing route are subject to sudden change without notice. Using climbing bolts abandoned by other climbers is also inherently dangerous. Bolts and other anchoring equipment may deteriorate and rock conditions may change in ways that alter the reliability and effectiveness bolts and anchoring equipment. Climbing routes that use existing bolts should be used with caution and every climber assumes the risk of injury or death when engaging in climbing activities.

There are no standardized specifications for bolt manufacturing or procedures for bolt placement. The technology incorporated in bolts and the protocols for bolt placement continues to evolve. By providing periodic bolt replacement or giving or receiving any notification of bolt replacement, the SLCA does not thereby make any warranty express or implied or any guarantee of the fitness for any particular purpose of any bolt or anchor placement, the adequacy of any bolt or anchor placement procedure or the suitability of any rock face for bolt or anchor placement. It is the responsibility of each climber to inspect the current condition, proper placement and safety of every bolt on every climbing route.”
