Anchors: Forgotten Trails & B-52
During the week of August 31–September 4, 2026, the SLCA anchor crew returned to Forgotten Trails in American Fork to finish work throughout the crag. The crew continued around to the right side, leaving only the newest routes at the far-right end untouched.
During this visit, the crew encountered many familiar issues, including mixed metals, rusty bolts, and washer stacks. We replaced the aging lead bolts and anchors with Team-Tough glue-in bolts and mussy hooks.
In total, the crew worked on:
18 routes
162 bolts replaced
By midday Thursday, the crew moved down to the B-52 area to complete some light maintenance, including anchor updates, hanger realignment, and replacement of the bolts on the first pitch of Suspect (5.11a).
Because B-52 is a relatively new crag, it does not currently require extensive maintenance. However, the SLCA continues to monitor newer areas like B-52 so that developing issues can be addressed before they become more serious.
We hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend and was able to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!
The SLCA was stoked to have the Division of Outdoor Recreation (DOR) Grants Team spend a day with us in the field to visit the anchor crew at the Forgotten Trails crag. The grants team was able to learn more about the anchor and bolt maintenance and replacement process as it was happening. They were also able to climb on some of the routes with brand new bolts and anchors!
The Division of Outdoor Recreation provides some amazing grant funding for programs and projects across Utah, ad we appreciate their continued support of the work we do for Wasatch crags.
