Gate Boulders Clean Up
On May 6th and 7th, 2025 the SLCA partnered with KAYA to host a stewardship event at the Gate Boulders in Little Cottonwood Canyon. This clean-up effort focused on clearing dead and downed trees caused by a significant rockfall in the summer of 2023. The debris not only impacted the natural landscape but also created hazards and contributed to the spread of social trails.
This event was part of a larger, phased approach to restore the area’s natural character and improve sustainability. In 2024, a newly constructed climbing access trail was completed, providing improved and more defined approaches to the Dihedrals, Becky’s, and East Gate areas—helping reduce erosion and off-trail traffic.
We want to extend a huge thank-you to all the dedicated volunteers who came out to support this effort. Your hard work cutting and hauling out wood made a significant impact. Thanks to your help, the Gate Boulders area is looking better than ever—restored to its original, classic state and ready to be enjoyed responsibly for seasons to come.
Stay tuned for more stewardship events and opportunities to give back to the places we love!
