Event: Science on Tap with SLCA

SCIENCE ON TAP RECAP

On Monday, April 27th, the Salt Lake climbing community gathered at Second Summit Hard Cider Co. for a special night with Science on Tap, a benefit event supporting the work of the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance (SLCA). With over one hundred attendees filling the cidery, the evening was a powerful reminder of how strong and supportive the Wasatch climbing community continues to be. Each of the scientists who spoke, Dr. Anson Call, Dr. Atim Enyenihi and Dr. Carrie Cooper, are all part of the climbing community and doing amazing work that impacts the places we love, along with the activities we enjoy doing there.

We are incredibly grateful to Second Summit Hard Cider Co. for hosting the event and opening their space to the community. We also want to thank Science on Tap for partnering with the SLCA to raise funds for continued trail stewardship, anchor maintenance and advocacy efforts for climbing areas throughout the Wasatch.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came out to watch the films, connect with fellow climbers, and support the advocacy and stewardship work that keeps climbing areas in the Wasatch open and cared for.

Doors opened at 7:00 PM, and by 7:15 PM, we were talking science. Each guest speaker gave a 20 presentation on their area of focus, all of which had a direct connection to climbing at the gym and outdoors. The event wrapped up at 9 PM, and everyone learned something new and contributed to a good cause.

Events like this directly support the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance’s work advocating for climbing access, maintaining fixed anchors, building and restoring trails, and stewarding climbing landscapes throughout the Wasatch.

We look forward to seeing you at the next SLCA event.

Science on Tap

Meet the Scientists

Science on Tap is an event series wherein we bring scientists and researchers out to local bars, cideries, and breweries to give talks on a topic of their choice to their friends and neighbors in the community. Our speakers have presented on everything from the history of genetics and UFOs to the intersection of medicine and music and reproductive health. Organized from scientists at the University of Utah
