Volunteer and Event: KAYA, The Gear Room, and SLCA Stewardship + Community Evenings

Following the successful stewardship work at Fat Grips, on May 14th, KAYA, The Gear Room and SLCA hosted a small gathering at the Gate Boulders to bring together the climbing community and thank those who came out to volunteer. Our partners at The Gear Room brought 60 + hot dogs, buns and condiments to enjoy among the boulders. Yes, they carried a grill up to the bouldering area. Climbers were able to hang out, eat and boulder for the evening!

SLCA had an opportunity drawing with awesome gear from our Gear Room and Kaya partners.

Once it got dark (enough) SLCA screened The Story Behind Little Cottonwood Canyon by Mike Call and the teaser trailer for the Alpenbock Film premiering this summer.

KAYA, The Gear Room, and the SLCA are coming together for two evenings of bouldering stewardship—and one evening of bouldering fun—in Little Cottonwood Canyon. If you are a veterin or just starting to dabble your toes in LCC bouldering, these events are for you!

Come join KAYA and the SLCA on May 13th and May 14th for two evenings of bouldering stewardship at the Alpenbock Loop area. We’ll be working together to help maintain and care for a place we all love and cherish.

Stewardship efforts will include:

Brushing back vegetation
Improving boulder landings
Basic trail maintenance

On Thursday, May 14th, after wrapping up work at Alpenbock, head over to the Gate Boulders for a relaxed evening of bouldering, grilled food, and community. We’ll also be showing the short film “The Story Behind Little Cottonwood Canyon”, produced by KAYA and directed by Mike Call.

Bring your boulder pad, an empty stomach, and a chair—we’ll see you out there.
