Snow Meets ROCK: UAC & SLCA Host First-Ever Community Mixer
Two of Utah’s most beloved mountain nonprofits—the Utah Avalanche Center and the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance—are teaming up for the first time to bring our shared communities together under one roof. Whether your passion lives on snow, rock, or both, this special evening is all about connection, shared stewardship, and the stories that shape our lives in the mountains.

Why This Event Matters
Both the SLCA and UAC exist to protect the places and people that make mountain life possible. The Utah Avalanche Center keeps people on top of The Greatest Snow On Earth® through forecasting, education, and statewide awareness efforts. The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance works to protect climbing access and steward sustainable outdoor climbing resources in the Wasatch and beyond.
Though our mediums differ—ice, snow, or granite—our values overlap: access, safety, stewardship, and community. This mixer marks the first time our two organizations are joining forces for an evening dedicated to the culture and conversation that connect skiers, riders, climbers, and backcountry travelers.
What to Expect
We’ll kick off the night with updates from the Executive Directors of both organizations, sharing current initiatives, upcoming projects, and opportunities to get involved.
Then, we’ll dive into stories that explore one of the most universal themes across mountain sports: risk—when to lean in, and when to pull back.
Featuring Guest Speaker Vitaliy Musiyenko
Please join us in welcoming Vitaliy Musiyenko, who will share a 20-minute slideshow presentation on bold objectives, personal evolution, and a life shaped by the vertical.
Vitaliy never learned to ride a bike—so he went to the mountains instead. Since beginning his climbing journey in 2010, he’s completed more technical first ascents in California’s High Sierra than anyone else, climbed every peak on Fitz Roy’s skyline, soloed the biggest ridge traverse in the Northern Hemisphere, and made the first free solo of Yosemite’s 1,700-foot Widow’s Tears—the longest ice climb in the Lower 48. He also lost over 100 pounds and ran a 100-mile race in 21 hours—all while working full-time as an ER nurse.
He is the author of the three-volume High Sierra Climbing: Technical Rock and Ice, and his writing and photography have appeared in leading climbing publications and the American Alpine Journal.
Come for the Cider, Stay for the Community
This gathering is more than a social hour—it’s a celebration of the people who move in the mountains with intention, curiosity, humility, and heart. Whether you swing tools, clip bolts, chase couloirs, or do it all, you’re part of this story.
Snow and rock. Adventure and responsibility. Two missions, one community.
We’ll see you at Mountain West Cider.
