Rebolt the China Cave

The Project…

During the week of June 8–12, 2026, the SLCA Anchor Maintenance Team will be rebolting China Cave in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the Northern Utah Climbers Alliance, and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

This is a major undertaking, both physically and financially, with an estimated cost of approximately $9,000 in labor and materials. If you love climbing in Logan Canyon and want to help preserve this historic area for future generations, please consider donating to this fundraiser. Thank you to the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation for the continued support of anchor maintenance across the Wasatch and Utah!

About the China Cave…

For decades, China Cave in Logan Canyon has been an important part of Utah climbing history. Known for its steep limestone walls and powerful climbing, the cave helped shape the growth of sport climbing in northern Utah during the 1980s and 1990s.

The cave is home to iconic routes like Super Tweak, established by climbing pioneer Boone Speed. Climbers from across the region came to test themselves here, and generations of climbers have since learned movement, pushed their limits, and built community beneath these walls.

Today, many of the original bolts and anchors are decades old and reaching the end of their service life. This project aims to replace aging hardware with modern stainless-steel bolts and anchors to help preserve the routes while improving long-term safety and sustainability.

This work is about more than hardware replacement. Logan Canyon is a Scenic Byway with important ecological, recreational, and cultural value. As climbing continues to grow, stewardship and conservation are essential to protecting the canyon and ensuring responsible recreation for future generations.

The project is being completed in coordination with local land managers and stewardship partners to help minimize impacts, protect surrounding resources, and preserve the character of the area.

Your support helps fund replacement hardware, tools, labor, and ongoing maintenance efforts that keep climbing sustainable in Logan Canyon. By contributing, you are helping preserve an important piece of Utah climbing history and supporting the long-term stewardship of China Cave.

Thank you for helping protect the future of climbing in Logan Canyon.
