Wasatch Climbers: Public Lands and Local Climbing Areas Are Under Threat

A new Senate budget proposal threatens public lands—and it could have serious consequences for the Wasatch and climbing across Utah.

Last week, Congress introduced a bill that would make over 3 million acres of BLM and US Forest Service lands eligible for sale, including areas right here in our backyard. A new analysis using Mountain Project and land agency data shows that thousands of climbing routes in Utah are potentially at risk, including areas near the Wasatch.

These lands are not just climbing areas—they’re part of our daily lives. They support recreation, wildlife, clean air and water, and the very landscapes that make the Wasatch special.

What You Can Do

We need the Wasatch climbing community to speak up now to protect the places we love:

  • Tell your Senators to remove public land sell-offs from the budget bill: Take Action » Tell your story, the places that mean so much to you that would be affected if this passes.

  • Share the map and this message with your climbing partners and outdoor community.

  • Stay engaged. These proposals move quickly, and our voices matter.
