Anchors: Pentapitch Area

During the week of September 14–17, 2026, a smaller anchor maintenance crew headed to the Pentapitch area in Little Cottonwood Canyon to finish some remaining work. Pentapitch is one of LCC’s more popular areas during the warmer months, with phenomenal rock and crack climbing.

The crew replaced the anchor on Sasquatch, which is often used to rappel from Pentapitch and the upper routes. They also worked on slab routes left of Pentapitch, including Endless Torment and Dike from Hell.

During the visit, the crew found some familiar issues: rusty bolts and hangers, mixed metals, and hardware that had seen years of use. Rust alone does not tell us everything about a bolt’s condition, but these findings are a good reason to inspect the entire installation and update aging hardware where needed.

Over the shorter week, the crew replaced 31 bolts and maintained 12. SLCA continues to visit heavily used areas, whether we’ve worked there before or are visiting for the first time.
