Anchor Maintenance: Gray Cliffs Area

Last week, the anchor crew headed to the sunny(ish) side of American Fork Canyon to work on the easily accessible yet challenging routes at the Gray Cliffs area. After a few productive days there, the crew moved uphill to the Shame Wall.

As of fall 2025, all routes at Gray Cliffs proper have been rebolted by the SLCA Anchor Crew. Hard classics like Boon Speed’s Syllogism (5.12d), Bill Boyle’s Forty Something (5.12d), and Snaked from New York (5.13b/c) now feature new bolts and mussy hook-equipped anchors.

After wrapping up at Gray Cliffs, the crew spent a few days at the Shame Wall, rebolting moderate routes such as More of the Shame (5.10c) and Send in the Frowns (5.11a/b). In total, nine routes were replaced—no small feat given the short, cold days of mid-October.

This week marks the completion of SLCA’s 2025 local anchor maintenance season in the Wasatch. Next up: the crew heads south to Indian Creek, November 3–7, in partnership with the Access Fund and The Nature Conservancy, to work at the Battle of the Bulge and Supercrack areas.
